What to Expect
This oil painting tutorial workshop is suitable for anyone at any level. We will be practicing observation, drawing and interpretation from real objects, studying the classical subject - Still Life. You will learn to paint what you see with a creative mindset, building confidence with the medium and control of brushstrokes to paint expressively.
We will look at the Chiaroscuro effect when painting 3D objects, using light and darkness as a tool to create depth and realism and the use of color to maximize the effect and quality of your work. Join us every week to build your confidence, and not be afraid to paint.
❋ Week 1 — GrisailleWeek 1 introduces the basics of oil paints and the Grisaille method, learning to see in light and shadow before adding colour.
❋ Week 2 — Colour & MixWeek 2 explores colour relationships, mixing and blending with oils to bring your still life to life.
❋ Week 3 — Light & LayerWeek 3 focuses on the details, building up layers and using the Chiaroscuro effect to create depth and realism.
❋ Week 4 — The Final PieceWeek 4 is the big finish! We complete the painting and learn how to care for and preserve your work.
Karis Evans
Oil Painting Artist & Tutor
Karis is a painter from Wales and is based in Amsterdam. After studying General Illustration at University of Wales Trinity Saint David, Karis moved to The Netherlands and got involved with the creative community. For the past 5 years she has been teaching oil painting workshops and courses across the city.
Karis’s work is inspired by personal storytelling, each piece has a narrative, a sentimental touch, a spiritual message within her paintings. Her paintings have been sold across Europe and currently she is working on a variety of commission pieces whilst continuing teaching.
